Arnie's Page
Arnie is a small-town boy who spent most of his life in cities and now lives happily with Anne, his wife of 50 years, in Peterborough, a city with small-town feeling and big-city amenities.
He has two daughters and three sons, all college or university educated and making their own way in the world. Among them, they have twelve children and one grandchild of whom their grandpa is very proud and fond.
He earned a BSc from the Royal Military College of Canada, a BASc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto, and an MASc in Management Science from the University of Waterloo. He is also educated in Computer Science and Engineering through many years of practice.
Arnie has, at various times before 'retirement', been an Engineering Officer in the RCAF, Systems Engineer with IBM, Principal Applications Engineer with Digital Equipment of Canada, Computer Centre Director with Memorial University of Newfoundland, Vice President of Newfoundland and Labrador Computer Services, Director of Informatics Services with the National Transportation Agency of Canada, and a teacher of Computer Science and Engineering with Memorial University, Algonquin College and the University of the South Pacific.
He loves to travel to interesting places and meet interesting people, and has visited many countries around the world. Among the things he learned in travel are that many countries make more efficient use of energy than Canada, and are moving faster toward environmentally responsible energy sources.
Having become bored with retirement, Arnie decided to do something positive to advance the cause of environmentally responsible energy systems, something that would use his lifelong learning and skills and return something important to his own country. With his wife and two sons, he formed REAL Energy Alternatives Limited to promote the use of sun, wind, earth and water energy systems.
Arnie does most of the development work of the company and is enjoying the research and working with customers with special needs.
